Robert Schmitt, head of Project Industry 4.0 from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, and his team visited SDPT

On January 10-12, Robert Schmitt, director of the Institute of Metrology and Quality Management, WZL Machine tool Laboratory of RWTH Aachen University and his workmates Quoc Hao Ngo, Frank Leisten , Liang Junjie visited Shunde Polytechnic. The aim of their trip is to have a deeper look into the construction process of the Guangdong-Aachen Industry 4.0 Applied Research Centre (i4.0). Zhu Xixiong, deputy director of the management committee of Foshan Sino-Germany Industrial Service Zone; Min Leping, director of Shunde Education Bureau and the project team of Shunde Polytechnic led by president Xia Wei warmly greeted the visitors.

On the panel meeting both sides reviewed the recent progress and achievements on Project Industry 4.0: Song Yuhong, deputy dean of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, introduced the ongoing progress of the center with its design concept, major functions, finance and budget as well as future planning. Robert Schmitt highly evaluates the teamwork and expressed his willingness to provide additional information resources and technology support from Aachen University. The guests later visited facilities and labs including the Industry 4.0 temporary exhibition hall, energy saving & security management platform, refrigeration testing center. During the tour, the German team showed their full confidence to the future cooperation on the project.

The Guangdong-Aachen Industry 4.0 Applied Research Center was formally established in April 2017 when the project team of SDPT went to Germany during the Hanover Industrial Fair and signed a cooperation contract with Aachen University of Technology. It is set up under in-depth economic and technical cooperation of Foshan and Aachen Industry Alliance to introduce German Industry 4.0 new technologies and support the development of advanced manufacturing industry in Foshan.
